As some of you know, this is the closest the moon has been to Earth as it cycled through to full in almost 70 years. As such, I put on a heavy coat and braved the hike to a nearby empty field.
Cropped image shot on just the Sigma
The photos could be better, and they’re definitely less sharp than other moon photos I’ve taken but capturing the moment is as much a win in my book. Shot on an A6000 paired with a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 / Kenko 2x teleconverter (600mm effective) - definitely need to figure out how to properly shoot astro on the Sony, though finding somewhere in the GTA that is dark enough is quite difficult. Still debating whether or not to pick up an A7R mk1 to add to the kit.
Sigma 70-200 (ISO 100 1/30 f11 200mm)
Sigma 70-200 + Kenko 2x (ISO 100 1/60 F4 400mm)
I’ll be heading off to Rally Tall Pines in two weeks time so maybe I’ll hang back in Bancroft a bit and give ti another go. Who doesn’t love shooting in the dark and cold of winter?
Edit: forgot I dont have authorship over at photography lol.

Thanks!
Out of curiosity sake I googled what it would look like with an actual 500mm lens. Welp.

Those pics are pretty nice! Here’s an older crop of a D3200 with a 55-200 lens. I really need a better tripod tho, i had issues wih the shutter movement shaking the camera. Iso 200, 1/50shutter, taken 2. october 2014.

If you look down a couple of post you’ll see mine from a couple nights ago. Almost same size after crop. Was thinking of trying my other camera and adapters for 600-1200mm equiv lens tonight. Last night we had a light haze and any shot would have been crappy.

Haha I was looking at yours just before I wrote the post. Gonna fiddle around with some settings come December. The sigma is still fairly new to me.

Only have the Canon T6 DSLR but 3 other smaller cameras. Only had the Canon since late summer. My favorite toy is the Pentax Q7 that I can use adapters for my old m42 and Yashica lens on. I have up to (if I recall the x factor) about a 1250mm equivalent using an old Sun brand zoom. Also have a 2x teleconverters I can bump that up with. If the sky is clear enough I might play around with that tonight. I’ve played with manual settings on all of the 4 . My shots were a manual exposure but I’ve taken other moon shots with the Canon that were close to the same. Just ordered an adapter for using the m42 lenses on the Canon. I have some old Sigma and Vivitar lenses up to 200mm length that I could use a 2x converter with and once I get a Yashica/Contax adapter will be able to shoot at about 750mm with that same old Sun lens.
